What's it about?

We arrive at Price and Son, a shoe company owned by Charlie Price's father. We come to realize Charlie is completely disinterested in the business but unfortunately when his father dies, Charlie has to take over. Charlie resorts to closing down the company - until he meets a fabulous drag queen in London named Lola. Lola has an obsession with red and sexxxxx. Charlie uses Lola as an inspiration to create a new niche market of transvestite boots.  Kinky boots are the new hot thing because after all sex is in the heel. Lola to the rescue as she saves the fashion show with her "Angels." Acceptance is in the air and even the critical, narrow-minded Don sports his favorite pair of Kinky Boots.

What'd I experience?

I just sat and thought, if it only it were that simple. If only people would literally take a step or strut in other people's shoes before they criticize. It made me happy to know that this is what theatre is. What is theatre if it doesn't change people's perspectives?

One of the things I took out of my theatre experience, that changed my perspective, is their 6 step process.

One: Pursue the truth

Charlie seeks to find if there is any truth in the "niche market" that Lauren is talking about. In London, Charlie finds Lola and the truth that there is a need for more supportive heels for men.

Two: Learn something new

When Charlie learned of his workers problems before laying them off it helped him establish the crucial need for the company to stay alive.

Three: Accept yourself and you'll accept others too!

In "Not My Father's Son" Charlie learns to accept the fact that him and his father had a passion for different things. Lola explains how her father never accepted her for who she was. By Charlie learning they are not too much different he was able to understand where she was coming from and accept her as a drag queen.

Four: Let love shine

Everything Lola did was with love and passion which is why the Kinky Boots were such a success. Charlie lacked love for shoes which is why he wouldn't be impacted as much if Price and Son had shut down.

Five: Let pride be your guide

Lola was always proud of who she was which is why Don didn't intimidate her when she challenged Don to challenge her to do whatever he thinks defines a real man. (And that boxing scene was awesome!)

Six: Change the world when you change your mind!

If Charlie stood close minded about the new change in product at Price and Son he would have never created life-changing boots for transvestites and drag queens all over the world!

So on I go to conquer the world using the 6 step process!!!
