What it's about.
A story of a girl who's lost her memory and is searching for her way back home.
I was beyond excited to see this show. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I literally still have the VHS and recently watched it with a close friend of mine. It's near and dear to my heart, so childhood me was over the moon when I got my ticket.
But my happiness slowly faded and... It felt like they took what I loved and changed it, in front of my eyes. And I couldn't stop it. It was painful. It started off fine. I saw there were some changes, but whatever, that's bound to happen. Nothing too major. You can't win 'em all. Then, "Rumor in St. Petersburg" came on. I'm singing along, smiling and all excited because I know the words, but then, the words change. No, no, no. No. That's not the words.
I tried to take it with a grain of salt and kept going, but it got worse. They straight up tainted my memory of my favorite princess. I was watching this weak, fragile girl act soft - and I wasn't having it! There's this scene with Gleb, a high ranked official, which for starters wtf kind of name is that, he wasn't in the original but whatever. Anyways, she acts all scared and shrinks, and it's just heartbreaking to watch. Like girl, stand up for yourself. Be the hero of your own story.
Now, I'm not gonna crap all over this version of the story. They went into a lot of the character's backstories. I got to see Anastasia interact with her parents a bit more. I learned more about Dimitri and his past. It was a cool window into what wasn't seen in the movie. That and Anastasia's grandmother was: ON. FREAKIN. POINT. She had me bawling in the first 5 seconds with her old cuteness and pain later on in the show. Like, damn, old people. Y'all know exactly where to hit me in the feels, but still.
Listen, I'm aware of my bias, but screw it. #sorrynotsorry I'm gonna go watch the movie now to salvage whatever's left of my memory.
