By Michele TramSenior Plogger Mamma Mia!, the musical featuring the hits of Swedish band ABBA, has been running on Broadway for nine years. ABBA was formed in 1972 and the band name is actually an acronym of the quartets’ names: Anni Frid Lyngstad, Bjorn Ulvalus, Benny Andersson and Agnetha Faltskog. It began as a duet between Bjorn and Benny, until one day their girlfriends, Anni and Agnetha, collaborated on the song “Nina, Pretty Ballerina.” They realized how well their voices blended together and expanded the group. ABBA became tremendously popular throughout their career. Perhaps you are familiar with one of their hits such as: “Mamma Mia,” “Honey, Honey,” “Thank You for the Music,” “Take a Chance on Me” and “Dancing Queen.” Last year, ABBA was officially inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
