The new musical, Bonnie & Clyde, opens with a bang — or I should say, several bangs.
Set in Texas during the Great Depression, young diner waitress Bonnie Parker and escaped convict Clyde Barrow desire nothing more than to leave behind their dull, depressing lives in search of more promising circumstances. While Bonnie yearns for a successful career in Hollywood, and Clyde is unsatisfied with his life as a criminal. The two hopeless dreamers meet when Bonnie has some car troubles and Clyde comes to her rescue. The moment they meet, an irreversible connection is made. ( Read more )

Lysistrata Jones
By Oumar Berte
12th Grade, International Community High School
When I was assigned to review Lysistrata Jones, I was not really excited about it. To be honest, the name made it sound weird and boring. However, one of the songs from this new Broadway musical is about not judging a book by its cover and after seeing the show, I would add not to judge a play by its name.
Lysistrata Jones follows Lysistrata, a college basketball cheerleader, in her struggle to fit in at her new school, Athens University. She comes up with a very interesting way to help the basket- ball team win at least one game — you’ll understand when you see the play.

Anything Goes
By Olivia Munk
12th Grade, Bronx High School of Science
Initially debuting in 1934, Anything Goes is about as old-school a musical as they come, but refreshingly so. There is something comforting about sitting back for an evening of traditional comedic mayhem, sequins, and numerous tap routines — on a luxury cruise ship, of course. ( Read more )

Hair
By Zoe Wolfe
12th Grade, Hunter College High School
It’s summer in New York! Since the city is filled with so many outdoor concerts, movies and green grass, sitting in a theater felt like an insult to the day. However, I didn’t realize that inside of that theater was a perfect summer day waiting for me. You know, the kind of day when the sky seems bluer, the grass seems greener, and the warmth from the sun lights up everyone around you…and suddenly, all you want to do is give flowers to strangers and run through Central Park singing at the top of your lungs. I found all that in the musical Hair, which recently returned to Broadway for a short summer run. ( Read more )

Sister Act
By Audrey Alunan
12th Grade, LaGuardia High School
I’ve got something to confess — Sister Act, a musical based on the 1992 movie, is a must-see show!
Deloris Van Cartier is a sassy singer seeking fame in 1970s Philadelphia who worships Donna Summer and sequined mini dresses. When Deloris’ life is put at risk as after witnessing a murder, the police immediately hide her in the last place that anyone would look for her — a Catholic convent full of monotonous nuns wearing long penguin frocks. Based on the popular movie of the same name, Catch Me If You Can is an upbeat musical starring Aaron Tveit of Next to Normal as Frank Abagnale, Jr., a 17-year-old conman who learned the tricks of the trade from his father. Posing as a pilot, a doctor AND a lawyer is no easy task, but Frank is able to do it without breaking a sweat.

Broadway is a canvas of expression that gives people an opportunity to share their ideas and opinions. The new musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a unique and creative show that entertains and sheds light on important issues.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert, full of glamour and glitter, is a funny musical that leaves you smiling all the way home.
