About the Organization
Primary Stages is an Off-Broadway not-for-profit theater company dedicated to inspiring, supporting, and sharing the art of playwriting. We operate on the strongly held belief that the future of American theater relies on nurturing playwrights and giving them the artistic support needed to create new work. Our productions and artists have received critical acclaim, including Tony, Obie, Lortel, AUDELCO, Outer Critics' Circle, Drama League, and Drama Desk awards and nominations. Primary Stages supports playwrights and develops new works through commissions, workshops, readings, and our education and training programs.

About the Program
Primary Stages offers a competitive internship program based in the tradition of theater apprenticeship. We view the internship experience as a necessary part of theater training. Interns form a core of support in all areas of Primary Stages operations, gaining experience in the department of their chosen internship and receiving a modest weekly stipend during the term of their work. Our programs offer the opportunity to work alongside dedicated artists and managers at one of New York City's preeminent Off-Broadway theaters. Our goal at Primary Stages is to have interns learn a practical skill set, while developing relationships with artists and administrators in the New York City and National theater communities.
