What It's about:
Following the 9/11 attacks, 38 planes and 6,579 passengers were forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, doubling the population of one small town on the edge of the world. Based on interviews with locals, Come From Away is about how hosting this international community of strangers spurred unexpected camaraderie in extraordinary circumstances.

The first thing that took me by surprise was just how cheery and lighthearted many of the songs and characters were. Gander was cast as a communal, friendly little town. It’s hard to associate 9/11 with feelings of happiness and friendliness, at least for me.
Where were you on September 11th, 2001? It's a safe bet that most people who were alive on this day know exactly where they were and what they were doing. Me? I was in New York City, in my elementary school classroom on the Upper East Side. I was 6 years old.
